131: Incense And Sensibility

How did we go this long without talking about Andrew’s incense habit? Does he have a single secret problematic white guy dreadlock hiding somewhere under his Mariners (and, occasionally, Orioles) cap?

We talked a lot about the thing of where your brain attaches specific scents to other, seemingly unrelated (but related to your life experience) smells. Like incense and, say, a toilet that only kind of flushes. This is definitely A Thing - it happens because your brain is so eager to attach smells to memories and other senses. So if you smell one thing (toilet) at the same time as another (incense) enough, they basically become the same memory, even though you know that the smells are different. Gross!

Listen to this week’s pod here:

In other news, let’s do a roundup of things we talked about and loved this week. This is basically a Scrub Jacket Gift Guide so YOU ARE WELCOME!

The USB flyswatter that apparently we both have now!

The USB lighter that we’re in love with.

A teeny little ice maker for your counter!

And check this out - if you live that Small Life and you want to airdry your clothes inside, this cute little retractable clothes line will certainly do the trick.

(I regret that several of these are Amazon links but it seems like you literally can only buy some of these things from The Site That Once Belonged to Jeff so…ugh)
