164: Lint Condition

Listener, I need you to know: We got precisely one (1) good weather day before the sky once again opened up and said “no, you won’t be cleaning out your car or beating the rugs until May or possibly June. Now go back inside, you little Northwest gremlin.”

Because while Andrew may be a professional Hater of Other People’s Feelings About the Weather, the fact is that Washington and Oregon are Professional Haters of the residents of their states. But you know what? It’s fine. Because we have plenty of other chores to do what are only nominally weather dependent. And I can clean my garage with a Miller Lite in hand even in some drizzle, so long as it’s not a full-on Atmospheric River.

In other news, this week we talked about some other important things like why you should NOT BE LEAVING YOUR LINT IN THE TRAP FOR THE SHEER SATISFACTION. DON’T DO IT. IT’S REALLY UNSAFE.

We also talked about why some people may experience smells differently than others. This is actually pretty common with certain medications, like (according to Mt. Sinai) “amphetamines, estrogen, naphazoline, trifluoperazine, long-term use of nasal decongestants, reserpine, and possibly zinc-based products.”

When this happens, you might experience a couple of different kinds of changes. Some people have weakened senses of smell altogether, where they just don’t smell as many things (and also, as a result, may not taste as much, either), or they may experience altered scents. That is called parosmia, and if can be triggered by a medication — but it’s also a common long COVID symptom, so that may actually be what Andrew’s experiencing! We’ll have to ask next time we record.

Evidently, using too many nasal decongestants can really mess with your sense of smell, too, so if you’re like Andrew and I and you just love when things smell strong and pleasant, make sure you’re don’t overdoing it on the DayQuil or whatever.

And finally, feel free to send us voicemails about whatever you’re cleaning. And make sure to subscribe on YouTube! I’ll be honest, I absolutely hate it as a platform! It sucks!!!! I’m not a video person! So please at least subscribe so I’m not doing it in vain!
