106: Painted Love

Is there anything better than when we get a LEGITIMATE EXPERT on to talk about things that they uniquely understand? Wow-o-rama, we got one incredible professional on the SpotLine this week, telling us all about how to take care of woven items and other wooly textiles.

Listen here:

One thing you’ll hear in this call is a product recommendation. We’d never heard of this Woolite alternative, called Eucalan, but it honestly seems highly legitimate. Learn more about it here.

We also talked about Aunt Fannie’s carpet refresher (which is, in fact, literally just baking soda in a shaky bottle so like…you can 100% make your own), various ways to care for a painted floor (turns out, there isn’t really a good one), and the potential pros and cons of soap that is sold in sheets.

Plus! We are once again reopening the great Dish Pre-Wash Debate. Can your dishwasher handle crusted rice? Old cheese? Or do you pre-wash just so that you don’t have a stanky box of old dishes in your kitchen for a few days? As always, we’ll plug these sorts of videos:

And talk about the three tips I got from Dennis, our handyman:

  1. Run the hot water first

  2. Sprinkle extra soap in the door

  3. Consider using a rinse-aid solution, which can speed drying times and reduce overall crud/appearance of crud.

Another subject on this week’s show is the idea of dye-catchers in the laundry. This blogging lady who has a look that just screams I Am Good At DIY But Likely Do Not Have The Same Political Opinions As You Do has a little explainer and a way to make them yourself. You can also just buy them.

Are you a super-expert in…literally anything that pertains to this show? CALL US! 508-HOW-WASH. We love to hear from you. Especially if you’ve ever done commercial cleaning, since we have a caller who will be needing help re: some sewage. Would love a hand on that.
