66: Stripped From The Headlines
CHEER UP, CHARLIIIIIIIIE! Stripping your laundry is way more fun that poking at it with a big-ass fork while your mom tries to talk sense into you. And yes, it really does work! On today’s show, we revisited our old friend, Laundry Stripping (this time as brought to us by TIK TIK UGH).
Learn all about it:
If you’ve watched any videos about laundry stripping, you probably know all about Borax. But what the flip exactly IS Borax? Is it a brand-name? Is it just baking soda with a little extra kick?
Simple, Borax is the simplified name of sodium borate. It’s a super-basic white powder that’s made up of boron, sodium, and oxygen. It’s found in lakes! And other places!
Anyway, it kicks ass when it comes to comes to pulling crud out of your sheets and towels — crud that might be deposited BY doing laundry. So stripping every now and then is a good idea, especially if they’re smelling sour. Also, it’s wonderfully satisfying.
We also talked about how fantastically versatile microfiber glasses clothes are, especially when you’re on the hunt for more stuff to clean. But how do they work?
Here’s a quick explainer:
“An ordinary cleaning cloth has fibers made of cotton or a synthetic material such as nylon. You've seen pieces of cotton so you know exactly how big the fibers are. But a microfiber cloth has far more fibers and they're much smaller. If "many hands make light work", so do many fingers—or many micro-fibers.”
With glasses — and screens — this is super-important. Plus, all those little fibers are literally charged to attract stuff without leaving a smear behind.
