207: Not That Kind of Girdle
Would you look at this self-portrait that we found in the book that listener Bruce — Chief Spotless Librarian and President of the Scrub Jockey Book Club — sent to us? Truly the spit of me.
The book, which is called How To Clean Everything and is written by Alma Chestnut Moore (who seems to have been dining out on this banger for close to a century at this point), honestly still has some pretty solid advice. Tidbits about how to clean old books, what to do about stains on upholstery, and “unbuilt” detergent could still have some relevance!
And even if you’re not hurting for girdle-cleaning advice, you’ll still probably like this episode because we’ve got a LOT going on. Listen here:
Orrrrr you can watch the pod here (and seriously, you really should this week. There are a LOT of visual elements!)
This was possibly one of our most cleaning-heavy pod episodes in a while! Topics included:
Do you rinse your countertops when you clean them? (Answer: It depends on what you’re cleaning them with, what your goals are, and what kind of countertops you have)
How to deal with a stinky dog (especially one with an oily/thick coat — and the answer is very diluted vinegar in a spray bottle! It’ll kill the bacteria that makes your dog’s coat smell funky AND keep them from getting itchy)
And how to deal with feelings of cleaning guilt (like when you realize your kitchen floor is actually a HORRIBLE AWFUL MESS AND YOU ARE A CRETIN FROM THE DEPTHS OF THE FILTH CIRCLE OF YUCK)
As always, we’d love to hear from you. We got a FANTASTIC story about a terrible mess this week and it has been living in my head for days. GIVE US MORE!!!!
