150: Counter Point

Ok, let’s start with the biggest issue: Vacuum attachments. There are so many! How do you know which is which? Does it help bring the spark back into a vacuuming relationship? Who knows. But this video is very thorough so maybe you could use it!

Also very importantly, I wanted to share some resources re: countertop funk i.e. stinky granite i.e. the bacteria that make your kitchen smell like a billion wet dogs.

Paradoxically, it turns out that disinfectants like the ones in wipes can actually create a greater stink. Harsh chemicals like bleach can actually get trapped in various surfaces and then dry up, which is why you need a relatively gentle all-purpose spray (with a clean cloth and not a ton of excess liquid). Instead, spray and wipe your counter with your all-purpose cleaner.

Then, if you do want to disinfect, you can do that once the counters are dry, so long as you don’t absolutely soak the counters in the disinfectant. It’s usually a good idea to go once more over with a dry wipe to make sure stinky stuff isn’t getting soaked in.

Here’s a pretty good article about cleaners that also includes some additional links to all-purpose cleaners. But really, you can’t go wrong with soap and water!

Aaaaand finally - do you clean your luggage? When? How? Because honestly I’ve never done it and it occurs to me that that seems like a mistake. Martha has some ideas (of course she does) as does Eagle Creek, who literally make luggage.

What about you? Do you sanitize your nasty-ass bags? Tell us about it!
