33: Baking Soda Jerks

Do you have a microwave? Do you need a microwave? What if you’re like Andrew and you can’t find the pull-out cutting board right below your microwave? That was our kick-off conversation today and I’m sure we’ll keep right on having it.

Also! Andrew learns that that Mary Poppins song is actually about cleaning (and other things we don’t always want to do). Which dovetails nicely into our main subject (kind of) this week. We asked the Scrub Jockeys to call us and BOY DID YOU! We heard some amazing tips on cleaning with kids (or “kleaning with kids,” as Andrew was stylizing it). HUGE thanks to the callers who send us their insights.

Listen here:

Also, in a call that was not, it turns out, at all sarcastic, a listener asks why we don’t mention baking soda more often. At first we were like “wait don’t we?” but maybe we don’t!

Here are a few things that HBO says she’s used baking soda for in the last week-ish:

  • Floor grout whitener

  • Cooktop scrubber

  • Rust remover

  • Laundry deodorizer

  • Sink unclogger/cleaner

Here are some other uses you might consider that are also good:

  • Baking soda kills flees! Sprinkle it between the couch cushions.

  • It also kills stinks. Sprinkle it in funky shoes.

  • Sprinkle some in your carpet before vacuuming to freshen up the room.

  • Scrub out your tub when it gets scummy; you can add some to a spray bottle for a bit of extra grit (it can clog the bottle though, so just…be aware).

  • Toilet bowl cleaner-outer.

Also mentioned on this week’s show:

Got more? Give us the ol’ jingle jangle! 508-HOW-WASH is the Spotline. We’d love to hear it! In the meantime, good luck getting THIS CERTIFIED BANGER out of your head!
